18 Paintings, 3 Spoons, a Rake and a Frying Pan…

...describes the content of ‘Under the Fence’ hosted by Cobtree Museum of Kent Life in Aylesford from September 1st to October 26th 2006. The exhibition is directly inspired by the historic Kentish buildings at the museum and events that take place there during the year.

Giles comments, “Cobtree is a familiar environment to me, as I grew up on a farm in Kent. In these artworks, I have tried to convey a sense of place and era, something which the museum does so well. Images of people are intended to evoke the formal poses of early photographs. The wood sculptures are inspired by objects in the museum - they are there to offset the paintings and to celebrate the shapes of everyday objects, as well as being mildly humorous. ”
